With a little help from my friends

In yesterday's New York Times, there was an article about the power of friendship in maintaining your health and well being.  People with strong networks of friends are less likely to be obese, less likely to die of breast cancer and serious heart conditions, and even less likely to get colds.

We don't need research studies to realize this; we have lived it for the last year! The feeling that someone's got your back, someone's carrying you when you can't walk anymore, someone's a phone call away with a solution, some chocolate, or a half-hour to listen to your worries is irreplaceable. To know we're not walking alone is a gift unlike any other. So here's to friends and family!!

  1. Cheers! I join in your toast to friends and family who help make difficult journeys safer, easier, less frightening and, yes, even more joyful at times. With hope,

  2. A very hearty congratulations to all of you! I was diagnosed with ALL in June of 2007. We opted not to have the transplant (no well matched siblings) and May 22nd will be my last treatment. (Vincristine) It's been good news the whole way. I was diagnosed at age 33. My wife and I have three kids (10, 8 and 3) and the last three years have been very rewarding for me. I know most would say that's odd, but I feel you understand what I mean.

I am cruising the web looking for others with this disease. As my journey prepares to enter a phase that I couldn't even think of a few months ago, I find myself searching for good news. Thanks for providing your story. I will pray for your continued healing. John Halgren
